The Zoo Learning Fund (ZLF) was established in 1989 to set up an endowment to fund education programming at the Kansas City Zoo. Since that date ZLF has provided nearly $1.5 million in educational programming.
Those programs paved the way for outstanding opportunities for schools, teachers, tots, children and their grandparents. Some uses of these funds include teaching kits highlighting Africa, Australia, and endangered species; a Zoo library with many resources; outreach program materials and a reliable vehicle; education interns; special animal shows; computer equipment and teacher training events.
A percentage of the profits from Jazzoo, the Zoo's largest fund-raising event, are given to the Zoo Learning Fund. The year 2007 promises to be a banner year for education because ZLF has pledged $1.5 million to create a designated education space with four classrooms, offices, a resource center and conference room as part of the Zoo’s entry complex renovation.
